Alfa by Goboof Vaporizer Review

The Alfa by Goboof is a fairly new portable vaporizer to hit the market. It’s small, light, and has a lot of really interesting and innovative features that help this portable vape stand out from the rest.

Let’s get into it.

How the Goboof Alfa Works

The Alfa is one of the easiest vaporizers to use that I’ve ever tried. The only thing that can be a bit finicky is how you pack it. If your material isn’t pretty finely ground and tightly packed in the chamber, you will likely get a less than enjoyable experience. But, if tightly packed, the Alfa will give you a great vape experience.

To load it up, you simply pop open the oven lid at the base of the unit. Then, after loading and tightly packing the oven (which you will likely need a small tool for, as there is a pin through the center of the chamber, as pictured above), you just need to close the lid and pick out your temperature setting.

Temperature Settings

There are a few options for what temp you can set the Alfa to, and it can reach most of them in about 30 seconds. These settings are:

  • LO: lowest temp setting – 374°F/190°C
  • MID: middle temp setting – 410°F/210°C
  • HI: highest temp setting – 446°F/230°C
  • A/P: Auto-by-Puff, starts at lowest temp and increases by ~3° per puff to the highest temp
  • A/T: Auto-by-Time, starts at lowest temp and raises it over the course of about 20 minutes to the highest temp

I personally like to do the Auto-by-Puff setting, as I find it gets me where I need to go in about 10 minutes (unlike the 20 min. A/T setting), but it also gives me the full range of temperature without me needing to adjust settings.

You can switch temp settings by simply turning the dial (pictured below) to your desired setting. When the light stops blinking, you’re ready to vape. However, I have found these unique settings affect the battery differently.

Battery Life

The Alfa’s battery life is alright, but the A/T and the A/P settings tend to wear the battery down faster (or so I’ve found). I experimented a bit with the settings, using just one setting to test the battery life of each. What I found was that the battery life is best at LO, and gets lower as you move to MID and HI (which makes sense).

But, I also found that the battery life was even shorter for the A/P and the A/T settings. I believe this is due to the extra work that the vape does to sense your puffs/length of time, as well as constantly increasing the temperature. That being said, even at it’s worst, I can still get at least 3 full sessions off one battery charge. While this isn’t great, it is on par with most vapes on the market.

Build Quality

When I first picked up the Alfa, I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. It felt way too light, and it was much smaller than I had expected it to be. But, after using it for a while (and dropping it more than a few times), it’s clear that the Alfa holds up.

The body of the unit is really durable, and I haven’t had any paint come off or any dents. The lightness is actually really nice when you have it in say a shirt pocket (where I always carry mine), because the light weight makes it much more comfortable to carry and to use.

Cleaning/Maintenance

Cleaning/maintaining the Alfa is super simple. The easiest way is to take off the mouth piece and open the oven lid, then stick an alcohol-soaked pipe cleaner down the vapor path to pop out the screen in the oven. Then just scrub the vapor path a bit, then fold the pipe cleaner in half and use it to scrub the oven.

Lastly, just replace the screen with a new one (or you can soak the old one in alcohol, but the unit comes with a few extra) and run it on high to burn off any alcohol and you’re good to go.

Price: is it worth it?

Well, considering all you get for $200, I think this vape is well worth it. Plus, it has a 2 year warranty, which is a year longer than most vaporizers on the market. I personally think that this vaporizer is worth $200, possibly more if they find a way to extend the battery life.

This is definitely a portable worth having if you enjoy vaping.
